HELP

Hello everyone. Ive been reading this board for a while, and decided to register and participate more. I used to gig flounder at a place everyone called the old water plant on the Galveston side of the SLP bridge. Last year I took my wife down there and to my dismay, someone has decided to develop the area with condos or something. We made it to the water and got skunked that night. To make it even worse, on the way out, I got my truck stuck so bad it took three wreckers to get me out and cost me 300 bucks. Anyhow, I dont have a boat and this was the only area I know of that I could drive to. I havent been back since then and was wondering if anyone knows if you can still get down there to stab some flatties? I know it is possible to gig on the other side of the pass at the bridge, but I was going to take my young nephew with me and due to that areas record with drownings, I wouldnt feel comfortable doing it. If that area is inaccessable, can yall share some areas that we can drive to and not have to lug the floats batteries and lights very far to get to the water? I just want to be able to take my nephew out and let him see what its all about. Im not looking for anyones honeyhole, just an easy place to get to. Someone told me there is a park near the boat ramp on Gou Hole Road, but I went down there and wasnt able to find it. Eventually, I want to get a Jon Boat that will serve me to gig from and also to fish in the bays. If anyone is interested, I fish alot on the Tx City Dike at night with a generator and two 1000 watt lights. I would be happy to share them some night. Just look for a blue 06 F150 with a Ranch Hand guard on the front. Like I said, I understand if you dont want to divulge your favorite spots, I just want a place to stab a few with my nephew before he grows up and we loose the opportunities. Oh by the way, his sister is fighting in Iraq and came home for leave last week. When she was deployed her original leave was supposed to be in November during the whitetail season, and I promised her I would take her to my lease in Camp Wood. Well her leave kept getting put off, and she didnt make it till last week. I was true to my promise though and took her to Bill Bucks place in Alvin. (www.briscoeexoticranch.com) to hunt. Yeah, I know its a canned hunt, but a promise is a promise, and after all she has done for this country, I wasnt going to let her down. It was the first time hunting for her and her fiance, who is also home on leave, and to say it was successful is an understatement. She shot a 170 pound Sika buck, Brian shot a 225 pound Nilgai antelope, and I did my part in ridding the ranch of a 250 pound sow hog. Thanks for the great board, and I look forward to hearing from yall.

Welcome aboard, Don.  Perhaps you've already seen it, but if not, check out this article on flounder stabbing:

http://www.texashuntfish.com/thf/app/field-reports/10/A-New-Way-to-Hunt-Flounder-Gigging-With-Allen-Shannon

Perhaps Allen can chime in, or Texas.410, since both of them know a little about gigging flounder.

Oh, and you should write up a journal entry (with photos, of course) about your niece's hunt while on leave.  Thank her and her fiance for their service -- my brother is on his second deployment to Afghanistan and won't get leave until March, but I hope to take him turkey hunting when he is home.

I will try to post the pictures later. The computer here at work wont let me do it. I thought it was pretty cool when Brian looked at his Nilgai and qouted Ted Nugent, saying "You cant do that in France!". Yeah, that was my way of saying thanks for all they have done. As a bonus, I think I have a hunting partner now. Bet your looking forward to his leave just like I was and hopefully some nice toms will show up for Yall. I wasnt aware of it, but active duty soldiers get free hunting licenses. All they have to do is show their military ID. One more reason you have to love living in Texas.

I will check out the link and thank your brother too.

Hey Don, I am about to finish riggin up a flounder giggin jon boat. I have always waded before. I am going to start by targeting West Bay. It is a five hour drive for me and sometimes the wife can't come. I am looking for someone that lives in the area that can call me when the water is right and hop in when I get there. My email is rwayne@charter.net if you are interested. Wayne Cleburne, TX.

Yeah, I can let you know when it looks good, but I think itll be a while before all the fresh water gets out of the bay. I am looking at a couple spots in Trinity Bay that I have been steered to, but its gonna be even worse there right now. I just wish it would quit raining. There are a couple of places where the water is ok, but most everything is muddied up right now. It will take a week or so of no rain and a southeast wind to clear things up. You can email me at donkilbourn@houston.rr.com. Oh yeah thats about to change due to the Comcast buyout. Ill let you know what it is when it changes.
