COYOTE Hey, I live in Tennessee and am going to either around San Antonio or Austin around the 28th of December to hunt deer or boar or other stuff. I will be in south texas obviously and this will be my first time in texas. Anything I should know or recommended animals to hunt. I'm open to everything because i have no idea what im gonna see there.

tennessee, some hog hunts go for 100.00 to over 200.00 a day. deer are more depending on what you want. watch these landowners because you could pay 500.00 to deer hunt for the weekend plus a kill fee for every animal. you could wind up paying 2 or 3,000.00 for a weekend hunt .

The great thing about texas hunting is that there are SO many opportunities to hunt so many different species of game. You should be able to get on a hog hunt for about $250 for a weekend. I would try and line up an exotic hunt in central Texas. Go for a good solid Axis deer. that meat is SWEEET! Also try and harvest a black buck. Another good quality meat. The whitetail in South Texas, San Antonio and south, are more of an alluring trophy, but expect to pay for it, and in most situations a hefty amount. $2500-3500 seems to be in line with a management buck on a managed ranch with good possibilities. Some bowhunting ranches offer good day packages but without a good knowledge base your doing a lot of hunting. West Texas has some good possibilities but Mule Deer season will be over by the time you get here. Expect it to be a fairly off year for horns is the word on the street, but there have been some WONDERFUL trophy's killed this year. Check out some of the deer contest sites like Los Cazadores, Freer Deer Camp, Muy Grande and Cola Blanca. Do a search on google for them. It is a reasuring measure to prove that even in average years GREAT horns can still be had, if that is your game. Make sure you have ample clothes, like Jason said, resight your gun or bow or weapon of choice once you get here because things get bumped around in transit, and elevation differnces can effect your previously sighted marks so to speak. I assume you have some hunts lined up coming this far. Good luck, we'll be here to help if you need more info...

Sincerely, Brian Steward

Lets not forget to bring a shotgun! Quail hunting is always a mid-day option. They taste great and are quite a challenge. Water could mean ducks too.

Bowhunter is right -- even in a bad year, the folks from other states think Texas quail hunts are excellent, so you may not want to pass that opportunity up since you'll be here already . . .
