We have the same problem with our traps. The best thing to do is remove the top. We caught a 6pt last season, and a friend of mine caught a 10pt that broke its back before it could be released. Easy way to deer hunt!

We had the same thing happen to us a few years ago.  Man, they go crazy and are lucky if they don't kill theirselves getting out.

Try mixing a little diesel in with the corn, see if that helps any.

Try holding a large tarp up between you and the trap like a curtain to block their sight of you.  Sometimes if they can't see your body, they don't go as crazy.  If there are two people, one holds up each end in the air again like a curtain.  Then one opens the gate.  If there is only one person, then drape the tarp over the trap to block their sight all around. Then open the trap gate and step back.   It needs to be a large tarp. 

It won't always work but sometimes and it's better than their killing themselves while you walk up on it. 

I've had that to happen when I used Hog Wild or any other sweet smelling bait.  It works on hogs but it also attracts everything else.  I've gone to using sour corn and old produce instead.
