I have been working with my grandson with shooting my adult air rifle. I would like to get him shooting a.22 with a scope so he developes both abilities. Now for what could be a problem; will a range allow me to have a 6 year old shooting is question #1. Then will he be turned-off by others shooting larger and louder weapons? What has been ya'lls experience?

I would like for him to be able to handle a .223 by the time he is 8. I am chomping at the bit for him to get his first deer and or pig. He always asks when we are going deer hunting.

I don't have a piece of land that just the 2 of us can go shoot on so that is not going to be an option for us.

My sons went to rifle ranges in the DFW area, and elsewhere, since they were 5-6 years old.  That's when they started shooting 22s in earnest.  Never had a problem...in fact, some of the rangemasters went out of their way to make them feel welcome.  Some of the other shooters let them shoot their rifles as well (with my permission of course) once they got used to the 22s and were ready for a little more.  Hearing protection made a lot of the big 'booms' more bearable and less threatening for them  All in all it was a very positive experience.

You may already have this, but here's a link for the NRA-affiliated gun ranges in Texas.  Saw one close to you in Conroe, as well as others in Spring and Livingston.  The one in Spring is Carter's Country, which I understand is a pretty big operation.

NRA affiliation is not guarantee that the range will work for you, but at least its a start.  Hope this helps - let us know how things turn out.
