YOUTH ONLY HUNTS

There are no application fees or permit fees for participants in Youth Only hunts.

The purpose of these Youth Only hunts is to provide youth with an enjoyable and memorable outdoor experience and introduce youth to the sport-hunting ethic through an experienced and responsible mentor. The hunts are generally scheduled to occur at times when youth are out of school and will be structured to make the activities more youth-oriented and accessible.

This year, the department offers these drawing categories for hunting only by supervised youth (8-16 years of age). These categories are:

YOUTH ONLY ALLIGATOR (YAL)

YOUTH ONLY GUN DEER; EITHER SEX (YDE)

YOUTH ONLY GUN DEER; ANTLERLESS/SPIKE (YDA)

YOUTH ONLY DEER MANAGEMENT; EITHER SEX (YDM)

YOUTH ONLY EXOTIC (YEX)

YOUTH ONLY JAVELINA (YJE)

YOUTH ONLY FERAL HOG (YFH)

YOUTH ONLY SPRING TURKEY (YTS)

These rules are specific only to the Youth Only categories listed above.

NOTE:

A Social Security Number is required for each individual listed on the application card for the card to be considered valid. A Social Security Number is also required to be collected for the purpose of child support collection enforcement under Federal Statute 42 U.S.C.A. 666. The Department will make appropriate provisions to allow drawn

disabled youth

to participate in public hunts. Drawn disabled youths, upon their request, will be assigned to an easily accessible hunt compartment or blind. It is recommended that persons having a significant disability or special needs inform hunt area staff several days in advance of their drawn hunt so prior arrangements can be made.

During these Youth Only hunts,

only the youth will be authorized to hunt, however, the youth must be supervised by a non-hunting adult (18 years of age or older) also listed on the application card. If the youth has successfully completed the Hunter Education Certification, the requirement for direct supervision is relaxed to the extent that the youth is not required to be in the immediate presence of the supervising adult, as long as the supervising adult is present on the area. Failure of the parent or guardian to properly supervise youth hunters will be cause for forfeiture of the permits of both hunters. Both the youth and the supervising adult must possess a valid hunting license and a special hunting permit. Individuals 17 years of age are not eligible to participate in this category in any capacity.

The qualifying age of the youth is determined by the age at the time the application is submitted.

An adult applicant should place his or her name first on the application card on Youth Only hunts to act as point-of-contact for the youth applicant.

Only the adult(s) and youth(s) appearing on a drawn application will be allowed to enter the hunt area. NO SUBSTITUTIONS

may be made for persons listed on applications or on hunt permits. The only exception that will be considered is for a non-hunting supervising adult. An adult may supervise multiple youths, however, a youth may not have more than one supervising adult. Applications for Youth Only hunts (other than Alligator) may contain a single supervising adult with 1, 2 or 3 youths or 2 supervising adults and 2 youths. Applications for the Youth Only Alligator hunt category must contain a single supervising adult with 1 or 2 youths.

The Youth Only hunt categories are separate and distinct drawing categories. Application in one of the general drawing hunt categories such as Gun Deer Either Sex (GDE) and in the corresponding Youth Only drawing hunt category such as Youth Only Gun Deer Either Sex (YDE) does not constitute duplicate application and will not result in disqualification of the applicants.
