Larry you are going through what lots of hunters throughout Texas. Yes the hogs will run your heard off. If you are setting in a stand and have deer around you and some hogs come in , watch the deer run off. Hogs do more damage to the deer herd. they eat newborn fawns. Deer don't like to share there range with hogs? Hogs root up there tender grasses. If you shot the two hogs you are to be commended, great job! Where we use to hunt we were run over with hogs. We started two weeks before rifle season killing hogs. They will run off for awhile after you have shot a couple of them. But they will gradually return. SORRY Those you killed looks like they would fit just rite on the pit!

No doubt they will run them off.  Like Eddie says they will run deer off every time.  In fact, in many parts of Texas wild hog infestation is getting to be an epidemic.  Sows can have several litters a year and if unchecked they'll take over a place.

We hunt near Telegraph (north of you) and their population is steadily increasing. Problem is, pigs are pretty smart.  Once they know they are being hunted consistently they'll often go nocturnal and will be much harder to kill.

My buddy is loaning me his hog trap until I get mine built later next month.  Got corn souring up since last week.  Looks like I may not have to buy as much pork for my sausage this year....

When I lived in Leon County we Had a few back in the early 80s they were mostly on the river bottoms or big creek bottoms. In the early 90s that changed, they are everywhere you cant get rid of them. I can recall when the ranchers said not to kill many? They wanted to let them multiply so we could have other than deer to hunt? Boy they made a mistake. No telling how many fawn they eat a year. Here in Concho County we have none where I hunt but they are moving our way.

Pigs breed every 3 months 3 weeks 3 days. They can have ther 1st litter a 6 months. Remeber when setting the trap, leave it open for a few days before trapping them. This gives them the feeling it is safe. If you can move them out of the trap(trailer them) before killing them. If you can't you will need to move the trap around because they will not enter after they smell the blood. Pigs are VERY SMART. If they are coming to the feeders then you do not need to wait for the corn to sour. Good luck controlling them.  

The hogs in Texas are OUT of CONTROL--its already an epidemic.  I was reading up on them.  Did you know that the entire population of hogs stemmed from a mere 70-80 or so abandoned in south Texas long ago.  They bread like rabbits and they are more aggressive then deer so yotes will take a fawn before tackling a pig.  They are immune from most swine diseases because they started as domesticated pigs.  I am in a city and they are coming into the neighborhood and 4 or 5 pig in a night can completely destroy a yard.  I saw a guys yard attacked....we are talking complete new grass in the front yard.  I have no idea what they were doing out there but they uprooted everything.

You need to shoot as many hogs as you see and you can eat.

Pigs are the smartest animal on the farm.

Yes hogs breed like fools and they never stop coming.  SHoot everyone you see and constantly keep pressure on them.  Hogs are taking over 1 county at a time and are harming deer herds and other wildlife.  Kill as many as you can.  Here is a pic from our Jack County Lease.

the best thing to do is when your going to shoot a herd of hogs is to make sure you have two or more of them in a line.  that way when you shoot the first one you can get the one behind it and if your lucky maybe one more behind the second one.  you get two or maybe three hogs one shot.  I will not hesitate to kill as many as I can when I get a chance.  I wont stop with one if they are still there after I pull the trigger the first time. 

There are alot of hogs and some guys claim not to shoot what you're not going to eat.  I'd have to disagree w/ that.  Something will fare well on it.  If they go too long you won't have deer to hunt and only hogs.  You can make your own decission on what you want to do.  If your a deer hunter you'll be glad you practiced the shots on the hogs when you can.  An AR makes it a heck of alot more fun.  You got a 30rd magazine and alot of hogs to kill.  Git-R-Done!!

we have a lot of hogs on our place in coleman county we try to hunt and trap them in the spring and summer months to help keep the  population
down they tear up our feeders and root holed under them kill all u can and eat the rest

Wild hogs are a pest, dangerous, and destructive.  Our family normally operates under the shoot-only-what-you-eat principle.  But, when it comes to pests, especially potentially dangerous and harmful ones, we have no problem at all with thinning down the population...considerably.

I have had 2 Game Wardens and a Wildlife Biologists tell me "If you don't want them leave them lay. The Buzards and the coyotes have to eat too!!"

I'm surprised the buzzards will eat them - have you ever seen what those things eat?  I'm kidding of course about the buzzards.  But the pigs WILL eat just about anything.

(and yes, I've eaten wild hog and its good...but, after watching several eat dead, decayed cows and similar carrion I sort of changed my mind)

There is no real answer to this problem. Hogs just breed to fast, to often, so I for one suggest that if you can, target practice in the summer. Shoot ALL that you can as they will replace those that you take very fast. Most all of the land owners I have talked to agree, SHOOT them. Not only do they eat fawns, but new born sheep, goats and yes cattle if they can get thru the cow. They also destroy fences as well. Our land owner has told us if we cannot get a kill shot, just shoot thru the middle and try to hit as many as is possible.

I am a firm believer in only shooting what you will eat. I have stuck to that all my life. I have also had the belief that if there is a dangerous animal about that you should kill it for your safety and the safety of other hunters. That could end up being a good friend or family member. With all that being said, while hogs are considered more of a nuisance that dangerous, I hold them in the dangerous category. I've seen up close and personal what they can do. My suggestion is a 12GA semi auto with 00 buck shot. Let a bunch of them get close in together and unload. A little tip here. Notice which direction they come from. Most of the time they will try to escape back in that same direction so start shooting from that side back towards the middle of the pack. You might have to be a little closer than with a rifle but you can get more of them at one time. Do this at every feeder because they are smart and will move after you "attack" them. I agree with you 100% James. I also only will kill what we can eat. I do not condon killing just for the "SPORT" of it. However with hogs, they are a different story. I have been treed by them before and when you can hear their tusks smashin at you, believe me it is no fun and will raise the hair on the back of your neck!!!!! KILL THEM ALL IF YOU CAN.

Kill every hog you see! There are several places to sell trapped hogs in Gonzales, Texas and they can be dangerous if spooked with young. My son got put up a tree by an old sow. Deer hate being near hogs.

hogs are like vacuum cleaners.  they suck everything up.  eat all your corn, eat your food plots, tear your roads up and if you really think about they eat your money too.  a practice i use is shoot em in the gut.  oh yeah trust me it works.  i  dont see hogs during deer season anymore, which greatly boosted the deer population . its great.  only down fall ive had now is its hard to find hogs for sausage after deer season.  lol.  btw good luck with your problem
