Hogs running deer off???

I was watching a 5 pointer opening morning trying to decide whether he was a true cull or not.  Suddenly he looked to the trail he had entered the area by, and jumped back about 8 feet.  He looked one more time and hauled butt.  I thought a big bruiser was fixing to come through any second.  To my amazement, a group of about 11-15 wild hogs stormed into the feed area and started sucking up corn like a dozen Hoover vacuum cleaners.  About half of them were around 25 pounds each.  The rest were over 125 each.  I picked out the biggest of them and made a little hole going in a big one going out.

This is the first hogs I have actually seen in the three years I have had this property SW of Rocksprings.  I knew there were some around, but again, this is the first I  had actually seen.

What I'm wondering is, will these hogs run the deer completely out of the area?  After that incident, there were no more visits to that feeder the entire weekend by deer, and the area stunk heavily of hog urine.  That particular stand almost always has deer at it morning and evening.  Looks like I will be trapping this weekend...

I think the deer will come back. My experience is once you kill a hog or two and the other see that happen, then it opens up again. My husband shot a sow with a bow the last weekend before open of rifle season. We haven't seen the hogs since, and opening weekend I was able to get a nice 8 pointer. Best wishes to you this hunting season. Try not to get discouraged yet. At least you can have some good pork chops :)

I've seen the feeding right next to each other with little more than cautious curiousity.  The 5pt was probably a young buck but anydeer might be ran out by 15 hogs.  Hammer the hogs a few times and you should be ok.

The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends. http://www.hossfly.com 979 777 1725

I am by no means an expert, but from what I have herd and read hogs are nomadic. Meaning if you scare them off from an area pretty good they normaly move off to another area. (Take this info with a grain of salt though...lol)
