This year it seems like the hogs and deer just aren't moving much at our hunting properties. Last year there was plenty of opportunity to harvest nice pigs over 200lbs and some good deer shot. There are signs of hog and deer activity, but very little and when we put up a trail cam to take photos, all we get is racoons stealing all the corn at night. The hog pipe has been taking hits, but we fill it up and it takes about a week before it gets hit again. There has been good hunting weather for pigs, days where it's nice cold and wet, but still very little pig movement!!! This if frustrating becuase our ranches our located so far away from our home base of San Antonio and the little time we do spend at the ranch, we spend looking at empty feeders with no activity. Has anyone else been having such luck this year, some of the other hunters blame the bad drought we had two years ago, others are blaming the wet weather that produced much native food supply, limiting the need for wildlife to be attracted to the feeders for corn!!! Our ace in the hole is our newest hunting property in Atascosa where we have been feeding corn daily and have a hog pipe set up, but have not been putting any hunting pressure at all to allow the wildlife to get comftable with the new set up!!!
