ADVICE PLEASE - HUNTING HOGS ON A FULL MOON AND LOW TEMPS THIS WEEKEND

I'm planning a hog hunt this Saturday around Austin and seek advice. With this newest storm system hitting today and leaving by Friday afternoon leaving temps low (high 50 low 29) for Saturday combined with a full moon....what time of day would be best to be in the stand? I know that hogs tend to run more at night but with the cooler temps was wondering if they might hunker down Friday night and maybe be out Saturday during the day when the temps warm up a bit. I also have an unusual question about scent control. Why couldn't I just spray "melon, watermelon, strawberry, etc" scent on me to cover my scent in the stand....especially if I'm using melon pieces for bait? Any and all good suggestions would be appreciated. I sure need some meat in my freezer.

If you are going to stand hunt them, I would only stay until around 9. If you are able I would then get down and slip around your hunting area. Always hunt the wind and walk slowly when doing this and your chances of walking up on a group of pigs will increase. We do this occasionally and have had good success this year, killing 15 pigs of various sizes. Happy hunting and hope you get some meat!!!

As far as best time to hunt the stand for pigs I would recomend early in the stand at least 30 min before daylight and if you can take being in the blind all day stay as late as possible until 11am or noon.  Alot depends on what kind of bait your are hunting to draw them in.  As far as cover scent goes, we find vanilla works really good, so we spray inside the blind with vanilla and ourseleves.  I am a firm believer that optimal time for shooting pigs is late in the evening right before it gets dark and even better if you have a hog light or spot light stay in the blind after dark for your best chances or shooting some pork chops!!!
