I have been hog hunting the SHNF upnear coldspring every weekend.and seeing rooting EVERYWHERE.

I know they are moving at night right now, but im bound to run into something eventually, my first question is:

Is it legal to bait hogs in the national forest, and im actually not sure if its the national forest where I am wanting to bait, because oof the signs being on either side of a powerline.

Second, can I put a game cam out there? MAybe findaway to SECURE it there. Ijust dont want an official seeing it and busting me.

No it is not legal to bait. Yes you may use a game camera. Because you are unsure if it is not national forest, I can only assume it is not your land either. That spells big trouble. In Texas, without landowner permission, you will be going to jail. Didn't Texas just classify wild pigs as "livestock" belonging to the landowner? More trouble there.

There are two governing bodies when talking about hunting on National Forest Lands.  First, you must follow all of the rules and regulations set forth by Texas Parks & Wildlife Department.  Second, and in addtion to TPWD, you must follow the the additional restricitions in place set forth by Federal Govertment.

Those guidelines are posted at: http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/texas/recreation/hunting.shtml

About half way down the page, there is "How To Recognize National Forest Land".

There is much information at the federal web site including detailed maps that are different than the maps you will see on the TWPD web site.

Another subject covered is how to obtain Anterless Deer Permits from the USFS.

By doing a little research, anyone with half a brain can find out "All you ever wanted to know but were afraid to ask" about the Wildlife Management Areas within the state of Texas.

Feral hog trapping permit allows baiting. It is still illegal to hunt over the bait.Try using hot sow piss available on the web.
