Texas Shoot-Out 2011
March 10th, 11th, 12th & 13th

The Texas Shoot-Out has become a tradition that began more than 30 years ago. People travel thousands of miles to attend one of the greatest bow hunting adventures in the world today. The Texas Shoot-out is being hosted by the Chaparossa Ranch in Zavala County, and located 20 miles south of Uvalde.

The Texas Shoot-out is being hosted by the Chaparossa Ranch in Zavala County.  We will be hunting approx. 50,000 acres of the south Texas brush country. The majority of the brush is stalk able and walk able. Hunters will sign up for their pasture of choice providing that the number of hunters has not exceeded the limit of hunters allowed.  The 2011 Texas Shootout will be limited to the first 300 adult hunters pre-registered as again there will not be a gate registration.

Comments and Tips from the Ranch Biologist:
“We only have 6 people working on this ranch and game animals are not use to all the traffic.” TIP 1. Get off the roads and put your corn in the flats and sit downwind.
TIP 2. Don’t drive so much, just the sound of traffic will kept game from moving.
TIP 3. Try calling javelin if you bust’em, it really works.
TIP 4. Hunt all day, javelin feed during the day unlike feral pigs.
TIP 5. Use the wind and keep it quite.
“Remember there are only 6 trucks on this ranch and the game animals are not use to all the traffic noise.  If the hunters will take my advise they will harvest more game.”

We have one large camp area for all hunters. This area has several roads cut through it. The area along the south side will be for those camping with generators. Near the Hunt store and check-in area is a well with good water. The camp area is totally primitive ( NO SHOWERS). We will have three portable toilets between the store/check-in area and the camp area.

HUNTING COSTS

Non-hunter with a hunter......................................$100.00
Non-hunter attending on their own.......................$500.00

This gives the majority of the hunters a chance to set up camp and visit the store for corn and/or ice, Caps, T-Shirts etc. Hunters are not to have bows in their possession outside the vehicle for any reason on scouting day. The actual hunting dates are Thurs Mar. 10th through Sunday Mar. 13th. All hunters must be off the ranch no later than Noon Mon. Mar. 14th .

I won't waste my time at Chaparossa yhis year. Callaghan was great but have a buddy who knows the guys who ran the hunt. They went out with rifles and hunted the week before we got there and massacred em. Lots of sign but no pigs and when u did see a javelina it was so skittish u couldnt get within a hundred yards of it
