I'm a former Marine Sniper who moved to TX 2 years ago. I don't have a lease and don't know where to go deer hunting. It seems like you need a lease to do any hunting in TX.

I am not a trophy hunter, I am looking for the meat.

I am looking for public hunting land or someone with a lease that wants a deer or two culled out.

I have never harvested a hog and think that would be pretty neat as well.

Any input you can provide would be great.

Thanks in advance.

You can get public land maps by getting your APH (annual public hunting permit) it is $48. You get it just like you get your hunting license. Also try the Texas Parks and Wildlife website.

I'm an old guy (59) and can't keep up with you young bucks... however, I have just installed my first MILDOT scope (Nikon# 6469) that is a 4.5-14 x 40 side focus.

Have read the manua, but would love to have one on one instruction from a former marine sniper.

I understand that Marine MILDOT scopes have dots that are football shaped and therefore are a little different to calculate than round MILDOT reticles.

If you can out up with a slower hunter, I'd love to show you around the Sam Houston National Forest.
