I plan on hog hunting next year and am slowly getting everything I think I will need.  My question is after I field dress the hog do I need to skin it before taking it to be processed or can I just put it on ice and head to the butcher shop?

either or, Doesn't matter. If You have a butcher in mind talk with them and ask which one they want. I self butcher all My game to save money and plus I know what meat I'm getting.

We've always at least skinned and quartered our animals before taking them to get butchered.  That allows some time to ice them down and let them age some.

I would strongly recommend that you visit the meat processor you plan on using before you use them.  There are some looney tunes out there so it pays to check them out.

Like Sal we've done some of our own butchering, but you really need a larger work area and a better saw than what we have to do it right.

it is cheaper if you skin your pig first and quarter it,at most places, i allways just leave the skin on mine my processor only charges 20 dollars extra and the time is worth the money for me, if i shoot multiple hogs then i will skin them out
