I am in the military and just moved to Corpus Christi in late August.  I used to hunt in Pennsylavania and Colorado, but this seems a lot different and I am having a hard time finding a place to hunt.  I've been hunting whitetails since I was a kid and would hate to miss out on another season, especially down here where I've heard nothing but good things about the opportunities.  Anyone who could help me out, any information, locations, tips, etc would be greatly appreciated.  Also, I am interested in trying out some of the other hunting down here as well (turkey, doves, javelina, hogs)...but have no experience in those areas and unfortunately don't know anyone else that does.

First of all welcome to the board and welcome to Texas.

You can have quality hunting and fishing in Texas year round.  Corpus is a great area, and in addition to good salt water fishing, there are some quality hunting for deer, hogs, duck, geese, turkey, dove and quail pretty close to you.  If you like to varmint hunt, that's available too.  Some of the best duck hunting in Texas can be found down near you along the barrier islands - all you need is a good boat (or better yet - a friend with a good boat!) and some portable blind materials.

As one avenue to get you started, suggest you visit Terry Hahn's website - www.captainterry.com.

I met Terry about six years ago and have fished with him a couple of times and hunted at his ranch several times as well.  His rates for hunting are very reasonable and he has deer, turkey (excellent turkey hunting), hogs (some of the best in the area), dove and quail.  Visiting Terry helped get me started when I moved to Houston.

Also suggest you peruse through past discussion on the board as you can find guide's numbers and other useful information.  Allen has done an excellent job in putting this board together and there are some really knowledgeable hunters that post here - you can glean some good tips on where to go - and where not to go.....

Hope this helps and hope to see you on the board some more too!

Welcome to Texas,

Have you you ever considered hunting exotics? Texas has lots of exotic game ranches, as well as free roaming exotics. They are fun to hunt and make beautiful trophies, not to mention that you can hunt them year round.
