Texas -

Central Texas Safari Club is a dynamic, young, rapidly growing club catering to the needs of West Austin, Lakeway, and western Central Texas. The history of CTSC is quiet interesting; starting with a national SCI officer (of the parent organization) coming to Austin, and staying with an unaffiliated local SCI member.  During that visit the national officer suggested the need for a West Austin area chapter. A startling number of individuals were members of the national chapter, but not affiliated with a local chapter. CTSC started, not as a split away chapter, but as a club with an entirely new concept, and progressive view towards running a conservation organization. Presto, the ratification of the new chapter was super-expedited via a phone conference of involved national officers. The consideration for newly formed chapters was originally scheduled to be held in a national board meeting two months hence, however, CTSC chapter was ratified within two weeks of the club initial conceptualization! We were told that was a new record. Regardless, CTSC offers an entirely new focus compared to many local conservation/hunting clubs. Recently, Joe Hosmer, a senior national vice - president, after attending our one of our events, circulated a memo through SCI stating in part our approach ought to be "cloned", through out the region.

Central Texas is not a "good old boys" club - a clique within a niche within a subculture. It's a social organization of cool people having fun sharing a common interest - hunting. Many clubs have exceptionally boring speakers, speaking down, or even worse moralizing about some special interest agenda. Our focus is to have fun and create an environment of entertainment. In past organizations, many meetings I attended have been a dull agony. Our new concept looks to liven things up, make them interesting and fun - crank it up, so to speak.

While actively discouraging the formation of clichés, we realize we are all members of one group and every one of us wants to have fun. We approach our common interest in hunting and the outdoors in a different way. We are focused on socials - be it wine tastings, gourmet wild game dinners, clay shoots or group fishing trips. This isn't a club that hits you with money demands and once a year banquets.  We aren't even going to have a banquet - that's right, no banquet - ours is bigger, broader more expansive. We are hosting a gala, an event for wives, husbands, partners, mates and promises to be one of the best parties around.

Why are we different? Because we have fun. It is about meeting new friends; every officer in our club will consider you a close friend by the end of our evening. You won't be excluded, but invited to many different and varied events. We had a great club fishing trip with the illustrious Central Texas Czar of Stripers - Kenny Milam. Just one of many things we've done. We've had hog hunts, clay shoots, and just about every other type of activity we can imagine and we are still looking for more.

If you're looking for something, new different and fun… then give us a spin. Enjoy life, enjoy friends, and most of all be thankful we live in this incredible country, and particularly this most magnificent state where we have these opportunities. Poaching a Hemingway title: Life is a "movable feast" - you can wait to be invited - or you can take the party with you. At Central Texas Safari Club, it's always a movable feast, and we're taking the party with us.
