Deadlines Nearing for Texas Public Hunt Drawings

Hunters hoping to take advantage of economical quality hunts on state-managed lands are reminded of upcoming application deadlines. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will be offering adult and youth only hunts by special drawing for a wide variety of species as part of its Public Hunting Program.

What a day on Sam Rayburn as the East Region division of Bass Champs wrapped up their 2010 season. Top weights were stacked tight and two Big Bass over 10 pounds were brought in. Partnering for the first time, the Moorhead brothers topped the field to win $20,000.

The Texas AgriLife Extension Service will hold its first ever Texas Wildlife Short Course August 20-21, 2010 at the Brazos County Exposition Center.  Following the conclusion of the Texas Wildlife Short Course, the Texas Wildlife Association’s Regions 5, 6, 7 (Post Oak Savannah, Pineywoods, and Coastal Prairies) will be holding the annual Texas Big Game Awards Sportsmen’s Celebration.

Nearly 200 teams of Skeeter Bass Champs North Region anglers had their work cut out for them on Lake Ray Roberts April 17, 2010. High winds and heavy rains plagued the area adding more challenges to the anglers than just finding and catching fish. Jake Roane and Bob Grady followed their gut instincts and won the tournament, taking home more than $20,000.

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott today charged a Pasadena couple with operating an unlawful Internet-based game hunt operation that defrauded Texas hunters. At the attorney general’s request, the Gonzales County District Court issued a temporary restraining order and froze assets controlled by Paul and Angela Candelaria, the owners of Candelaria Ranch, LLC.
