It was a scorcher on Tawakoni June 27 as Bass Champs North Region wrapped up the final 2009 tournament. Dee Trammell and Butch Huie had a commanding win over 157 teams to win $20,000. Anglers of the Year for the North Region were determined and the field enjoyed a 105% overall payback in cash and prizes.

On March 1, 2009, the Texas Dog Hunter’s Association Hunt for the Hungry Tournament collected over 28,000 pounds of pork for needy families in Texas, making it the largest charity hunt in the United States.

Texas -

As a result of recent legislation, the department is proposing an amendment to rules governing means and methods for hunting. The amendment would allow the use of crossbows by all persons during the archery-only season, with an exception related to one county, and allow the use of laser sighting devices by any person with a physical disability that renders the person incapable of using a traditional firearm sighting device, provided the person possesses a physician’s or optometrist’s statement certifying the extent of the disability.

BURLINGTON -

Wild swine living high on the hog at the expense of north Milam County farmers may have met their match.   It is round-up time in Burlington, and for feral hog trapper Robert Bohuslavicky, it’s either pig or pork.

Nearly half of the sites in the Texas State Parks system will conduct public hunts during the 2009-2010 hunting season. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved scheduled hunts on 44 state park units at its May 28 public hearing.
