Hunters and landowners participating in the Texas Big Game Awards (TBGA) this upcoming hunting season will see some new rules and changes for this year’s program, including the creation of low-fence and high-fence categories for white-tailed deer and mule deer. 

The function raises money for grants to conservation organizations, many of which are involved in passing the hunting and fishing heritage on to the next generation.  Grants totaling $34,000 will be awarded to 18 recipients at this year’s event.

Sammy Kershaw and Whitetails Unlimited are teaming up to present the Concert for Conservation at the Hog Creek Icehouse, November 28 near Waco.

Jeff Holguin (Yorba Linda, California), a 2008 Olympian, earned the silver medal in the Double Trap event and also captured the gold in the team event, along with teammates Glenn Eller (Katy, Texas) and Josh Richmond (Hillsgrove, Pennsylvania) at the 2009 ISSF Shotgun World Championships in Maribor, Slovenia. The Men's Junior Double Trap team also took home hardware, claiming the silver in the team event.

Legacy Outfitters is out to save the bears. Black bears that is, crossing into Southeast Texas from neighboring Louisiana and slowly reclaiming their former territory in the pine forests and swamplands of the region.

With all the recent talk of pork bill spending in Washington, nearly two dozen young boys and girls with their fathers enjoyed the thrill of the hunt and the taste of pork without deficit spending. The American Deer & Wildlife Alliance recently hosted its 1st Annual Pigapalooza Youth Hog Hunt at DB Hunting Ranch in Bertram, Texas, and sponsored hog hunting opportunities for 20 children, ages eight to 15.

Central Texas Safari Club is a dynamic, young, rapidly growing club catering to the needs of West Austin, Lakeway, and western Central Texas. The history of CTSC is quiet interesting; starting with a national SCI officer (of the parent organization) coming to Austin, and staying with an unaffiliated local SCI member. 

The American Deer & Wildlife Foundation, in conjunction with DB Hunting Ranch and the American Deer & Wildlife Alliance, is helping kids pig out this month. Youth ages eight to 15 are invited to attend the 1st Annual Pig-apalooza Youth Hog Hunt. The event will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2009 and March 1, 2008, at DB Hunting Ranch in Bertram, Texas, and will provide a morning and evening hunt as well as a pork sandwich lunch and some other fun, educational activities during the day.
